Change the world with a mobile app!

Our Mobile Generation invites the crowd to join in the Apps4Sustainability challenge, a competition for the development of sustainable mobile applications. The winner of the most outstanding app concept gets a development package worth more than €30,000 from the Vodafone Netherlands Foundation.

What if needless violence can be prevented by dozens of people who are alerted at the same time when something is wrong? What if people?s health can improve because they know what all the unpronounceable ingredients on their food mean? What if millions of illiterate people around the world get access to education? Our Mobile Generation wants to turn 'What If' into 'When'. How? By creating apps that do just that.

Our Mobile Generation challenges the crowd
On the online platform at www.ourmobilegeneration.org powered by Enviu, people can post their concept for an app or elaborate on the concepts of others. Concepts can be added till March 30th. An expert jury with representatives from iPhoneclub.nl, Vodafone and Enviu will select the winning concepts. The winner of the most outstanding app concept gets a development package worth more than €30,000 from the Vodafone Netherlands Foundation. The package contains the opportunity to co-create the concept into reality and the launch of the app in the iPhone and Vodafone app stores. The second and third prizewinners receive respectively €5,000 and €2,500 and an iPhone and Android test phone, to develop their app.

Why apps?
The mobile phone industry is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide, with over 4 billion mobile phone users. In a country such as India, there are 10 million new subscribers each month. The mobile phone is such a powerful piece of technology that if 10% of the people in developing countries would receive a mobile phone, their GDP would increase by almost 1%. The right apps could have an even more social and environmental impact!
