In feite is HSDPA een nieuwe versie van de bestaande standaard, waardoor deze voor providers vrij eenvoudig is toe te passen. Naar verwachting zullen alle operators met UMTS in 2008 ook HSDPA gaan bieden.
Op een HSDPA netwerk kan je ook met UMTS toestellen die geen HSDPA ondersteunen prima bellen en snel internetten.
